Faculty of Sociology

Foundation of the faculty: In 1961, the first Lab for sociological research was established. In 1986 the Faculty of Philosophy set up the Department of Sociology. In 1991 the Faculty of Sociology and Psychology started to work. In 2007 due to restructuring, the Faculty of Sociology was created at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.

Faculty includes four Chairs: Theory and History of Sociology, Methodology and Methods of Sociological Research, Social Structures and Social Relations, Specialized Sociology

Departments: Research sector “Center for Comparative and Regional Social Studies”, Teaching Lab for Applied Sociological Research, Information Technology sector, computer room with the 20 working places and LAN, Resource center with professional literature, Editorial Board, which is preparing two professional journals “Annuals of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. Sociology” and “Actual problems of sociology, psychology, pedagogy”

Researches at the Faculty focused at the following key areas: Modern strategies of theorizing in sociology, Social conditions and consequences of globalization, Social inequality and social mobility in modern society, The development of European educational space, Methodology and Methods of sociological research, Comparative social research in Europe and it the world, The study of social networks

Faculty of sociology maintains fruitful scientific contacts with colleagues from the universities of Austria, the United Kingdom, Belarus, Germany, Poland, Slovenia, the USA, Hungary, Finland and others.

Specialties: there are training programs for specialty “054 Sociology” at the level “bachelor” (full-time education, 4 years) and “master” (full-time education, 2 years). There is also Ph.D. program (4 years).
